Business Foundations
Let's face it; not everyone loves math.
With the requirement to graduate now at the Grade 11 math level, many high school students aren't taking the Grade 12 course anymore. Graduates wishing to enter college business programs, however, might be disappointed to learn the Grade 12 level math is a prerequisite.
Georgian now has an option. Our one-semester Business Foundations program is a great solution for these students. The program will help students gain the necessary math requirement, and at the same time, introduce them to the core business practices they will learn more about in college programs. Within this semester, students can earn four credits applicable to a college diploma.
"This is not only upgrading, it's a foot in the door toward a college diploma," said Barb Marshall, Dean of Georgian's Business programs. "This is such a fantastic opportunity for high school graduates who thought they couldn't qualify. It's a portal to our Business, Aviation Management and Automotive Marketing programs."
It's also a great opportunity for mature students who might be missing the Grade 12 math prerequisite. Business Foundations provides students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required for their academic success in business-oriented programs.

Students can take the program full-time during the day, or through a combination of day, correspondence and evening classes. The first intake for the program is this fall. Its next intake will be in January. The math components provide students the opportunity to learn and apply essential mathematics skills within a business context. Through relevant business applications, students develop problem-solving skills, flexible thinking and an appreciation of the role math plays in the world of business.
This program can be personalized to suit the needs of the individual student. Students take three mandatory courses, one communications course, one general education course and one optional course. Options can directly relate to the diploma program the student wishes to enter. Business Foundations will also give students an introduction to their area of study, helping them to match their interests with a program.
