Technology Foundations
Want to pursue a Technology program but missing your grade 12 math credit?
With the requirement to graduate at the Grade 11 math level, many high school students aren't taking the Grade 12 math course anymore. Graduates wishing to enter college Technology programs, however, might be disappointed to learn the Grade 12 level math is a prerequisite.
Georgian's one-semester Technology Foundations program is a great solution for these students. The program will help students gain the necessary math requirement and earn four credits that can be applied to a college diploma (a typical College program has six credits per semester).
Bob Emptage, Dean of Georgian's Engineering Technology programs says Technology Foundations is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for their academic success in a Technology program.
"It's also a great opportunity for mature students lacking the Grade 12 math prerequisite," said Emptage."The successful completion of this program is a portal to a full-time Engineering Technology program."

The first intake for the Technology Foundations program is this fall 2008. The math components provide students the opportunity to learn and apply essential mathematics skills within engineering technology. Through technology activities, students develop problem-solving skills, flexible thinking and an appreciation of the world of technology.
Technology Foundations will be personalized to suit the needs of the individual student. Students take two mandatory math courses, one communications course, one general education course and two optional technology courses.
Options will directly relate to the diploma program the student wishes to enter -- Electrical Engineering Technology - Automated Systems, Environmental Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology with options in Automotive Products Design and Automotive Manufacturing.
Technology Foundations will also give students an introduction to their area of study, helping them to match their interests with a program. Upon successful completion, a student may be eligible to enter semester two with four credits towards their diploma.
